I loved this tool made threading a bobbin so easy. Dropped it once and the hook sheared off now makes a good dubbing needle. No disrespect to Upavon lovely company to deal with but won’t replace it
Our hobby is fiddle, so we use tools for the simplest of tasks.
I'm a great believer that using any tool, it should thrill and excite you, feel good to use, most importantly feel right.
Unfortunately this site doesn't feel the same about photos, absolute joke right? Blurry, like they never thought they could just add their own.
The stainless steel handle is balanced, shaped to feel nice in the hand. Control surfaces are at your finger tips straight away, full rotation in a twitch. Rubber rings are supposed to stop it rolling... Aids in picking up, and muting hard noise, rolling? It's round and parallel.
A flat machined area that has Stonfo proudly inscribed as they should. Well it serves a purpose for the thumb, this will allow you to know that the hook is at 45, while your thumb is at 12. This presence the hook perfectly in the middle of the legs of the bobbin holder ready for the thread to be engaged. We'll if you are right handed. Left, if you are left handed, you are use to be different and your index finger pad will show you the way. Stonfo always has you guys in mind. The whole of my Stonfo Transformer Vice can be stripped into left handed operation, as standard. To me that says everything about this brand. Also beautiful machining and finishing on everything they do has amazed me. Sure its CNC work, but still every second costs money. Bean counters are exactly where they should be, in the office.
The stem is long, tough than you will think. In my considerable judgment the end is ground to half the stems diameter, then heated to bend it almost like a nymph hook, so it now covers the original diameter. With this careful treatment it has maintained a tough and flexible quality, that should give 25 years of service, without cutting into your prized bobbin holder's tubes
This model is the thinnest, there is another size up, but I don't see why you would need it.by the time you find it the extra time it might save has been used up.
The Stem is 80mm and the handle is 55mm. This data is missing in their review, so I thought I would add it, as it was as important as I thought. It turns out, size dose matter... Unfortunately it was to short for my new monsters bobbin holder by 10mm. But I prefer the other 6 traditional models, to this modern pretender. I'm done with box sets.
As I said at the beginning tools should look good, be a joy, and well thought through. After all you could just heat some filament line pinch, bit of old wood or metal, few dabs of glue, and heat shrink the ends to the handle. Job done! But will it make you happy, be a joy, and look good on your Work area?
I think I saw a bobkin in the same style somewhere... But the handle would be a waste, it would give no assistance to its operation. Style over function, it should always work together. If not, you get the horror of London fashion week. Honestly should be charged for wasting material. Lol
